Awards are to be presented to digital signage projects for the second time.
The organiser of viscom, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, would like to particularly improve the acceptance of this rather young medium with the Digital Signage Best Practice Awards and also hopes to motivate more companies to extend their portfolio to Digital Signage products.
The three categories in which manufacturers, service companies, agencies and integrators can enter their products are:
  • Retail Signage – Digital signage applications in the retail sector
  • Information Signage – Digital information on public displays 
  • Guidance – Digital guiding systems in the public domain.

The Best Practice Awards showcase successful and innovative Digital Signage applications which have been particularly well planned and creatively implemented. In assessing the products, the jury will evaluate the relationship between content and technology while taking the design, setting and communication target fulfilment into consideration.

Nominations are made by an independent expert jury. The best ideas to reach the final round will be presented in a special area at viscom 2008.

viscom night
The Digital Signage Best Practice Awards will be formally presented on the second evening of the trade fair, at the "viscom night", the industry get-together for exhibitors and visitors.

Terms of participation
Digital Signage projects to be entered for the Awards should have been worked on after 1 January 2007 and completed, as far as possible, by 31.07.08.

Closing date:
1 September 2008
Entries can only be submitted in conjunction with the client and the contractor.

New Medium – new Award ... 

... this was also the motto of the Best Practice Awards presented at viscom 2007 for the best digital signage solutions.

  
  
  
The members of the jury were:
  • Thomas Dockter, organiser of the Digital Signage Day
  • Ian Hume, responsible for logistics and services at Messe Düsseldorf
  • Bernhard Baer, consultant for digital media at point of sale
  • Robert Müller, professor for art and design at university of Lucern
  • Petra Lassahn, Event Director of viscom, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH

The following criteria were relevant for judging the entries:
 
Content concept, sign placement, the choice and/or design of displays, the application system and the degree of goal achievement were the most important points.
Prizes were given in three categories: Guiding, Information and Retail Signage.
In addition the jury made a special award to one product.

The Winners of the Digital Signage Best Practice Awards 2007:

Category: Guiding Signage

In the category Guiding Signage were the following nominees:
  • netvico GmbH and Peek & Cloppenburg KG (Düsseldorf) with their store plan
  • Sony Germany GmbH, Ben Hur GmbH and koelnmesse GmbH with a trade show system
  • GDS Spa and Siemens Nederland N.V. BN with the IPPS train information system

The most important aspects of the winning design were the good integration of the solution in the architecture and client CI. Clearly tructured and comprehensive system integration together with good user-interface offered the customer true added value.

And the winner is: netvico and P&C with their Store plan system

Category: Information Signage

The nominees in the category Information Signage were:
  • Kapsch Business COM AG and Casino Austria AG with their casino infotainment system
  • PC-Ware Systems (Switzerland) AG and PRW Public Relations + Werbe AG with MovingAds at cable car and mountain liftstations
  • Pixelpark AG, Ben Hur GmbH and BASF Aktiengesellschaft with BASF today
  • 42media group GmbH and Movie Park Bottrop Germany GmbH & Co KG with MoviePark TV
  • m.con solutions Ltd. & Co. KG and BBT Thermotechnik GmbH with visual production date system
  • Macnetix GmbH and RFC Gastronomiebetriebs GmbH with digital menue signage

The most important criteria were the extremely comprehensive concept and perfect execution. An impressive project on a world wide scale.

And the winner is: Pixelpark, Ben Hur and BASF with BASF Today.

Category: Retail Signage

The nominees in the category Retail Signage were:
  • Advertimes GmbH and Saturn Berlin with their instore media solution in Europe Center Berlin
  • Visual FOOD GmbH and Valora AG with k-wachstum k-kiosk
  • netscreens digital Schaufenster GmbH and the Apotheken Dienstleisungs Gesellschaft mbH (pharmacie services) Mannheim with their product AGD Vplus
  • smart point media AG and Marktkauf Holding with impuls TV
  • 42media group GmbH and “World of Sun” sun studios with World of Sun TV
  • Seen Media. and Kaufhof Warenhaus AG/Galeria Kaufhof with their digital signage solution for the Berlin Galeria Kaufhof Worldmarket

The decision of the jury was not easy because all entries fulfilled all basic criteria. Due to this it was decided that two prizes would be awarded in this category to reflect the wide range of applications in retail.
The decision of the jury was swayed by the mated measure solutions and high integration of the digital signage solutions into the daily retail trade.

And the winners are:

  • Visual Food and Valora with k-wachstum k-kiosk and
  • Seen Media. and Galeria Kaufhof with their digital signage solution for the Berlin Galeria Kaufhof Worldmarket

Special Award

A special award was given to a product that was so innovative and so practicle but didn‘t fit into any of the three categories. The use of complete facades for emotional and aesthetic communication and information platforms opens completely new application opportunities.

And the winner is: ag4 media facade GmbH and XL Solutions GmbH
